MILLION DOLLAR MARTYN

Fabulosity! It's Martyn Lawrence-Bullard for Schumacher fabrics, wrought by Schumacher in weaving centers around the world (paisley in England, velvets in Italy, ikats in India). Every enviable stitch is so exquisitely designed, it must be unattainable to those not of the trade...

But where Cinderellas have Godmothers, amateurs have Etsy. And LabDesigns on Etsy has Bullard's Nebaha fabric in Citron for your pillow purchasing pleasure. Greek key AND chevron - pattern nirvana!
Bullard recently came by the Washington Design Center and gave a talk, ostensibly about merchandising fabrics, but really, it was pure entertainment with a few fabulous tips thrown in. His jokes were such a hit, the design house sounded more like the house of mirth.

That's him on the right - tiny, grainy, hilarious Martyn on my tiny, not so hilarious iPhone (and that washed out photo on the left is one of his new Schumacher fabrics, based on the Tree of Life and featured in the Schumacher ad above).

Pillows below are Adras Ikat by Bullard for Schumacher. Adras Ikat in the Jewel colorway is such a hit, Schumacher's shopping bags are patterned in it.

Guess where you can buy these beauties? Etsy, of course... from 3BModLiving. Below, Caravan and Sky colorways.

A riot of color! Bullard's style is Morocco gets married to a kaleidoscope.

Bullard's own dining room, with a ceiling stenciled in a pattern he took from antique fabric.

Sikar Embroidery by Bullard in the citrus colorway - available on Etsy!
You can view the entire Bullard for Schumacher line HERE.

GOING TO THE SMALL SIDE: ALIXE LAUGHLIN

Ever since I saw Alixe's apartment featured in Matchbook Magazine, I've come back to her photo spread again and again. The small size and bizarre soffit-ing gave me a boost of hope that I could pull off a similar vibe of beachy chic and casual elegance in my own digs. The rooms also showed new nesters how to slip in a lot of style with little stuff; the apartment is actually fairly spare and packs all its punch in color. Bold, beautifully patterned color. Secretly, I think I love this apartment because it looks like an ad campaign for Quadrille. Of course, it helps if, like Alixe, you work for Quadrille and have access to the world's most wonderful (and presumably deeply discounted) fabrics. But I digress.

Lucite lamps! Chinoiserie! Java grande fabric! Zebra! What's not to like?

A small selection of fabrics are the only tête-à-tête  in this space - the walls, coffee table, and art in soft neutrals simply listen in.

The sideboard is from Circa Who, a marvelous store in West Palm Beach, but they deliver anywhere. Such as my DC living room. I love the side table I ordered from them!

Fantastic saya gata walls. I can't help feeling that some images in simple white (or RED) frames would heighten the drama.

Love this bedroom - the balance of frilly linens with chinoiserie lamps and a striking headboard - and that wall hanging you could just walk into.

KATE SPADE DECOR

I celebrated President's Day this weekend by visiting the historic Williamsburg Premium Outlets. The Outlets were founded by Captain John Smith in 1607 after he arrived at the head of the James River and realized that, in addition to limited supplies, there was no where to buy brand name leather goods, or even Harry & David gift baskets. 400+ years later, you can still barter with shopkeepers to own an authentic COACH wristlet or Burburry scarf (a favorite of Captain Smith's because of the cold winters).

My favorite part of these historic shops was the newest addition, a recently renovated Kate Spade store. The best part? In addition to the bags, there were some really great decor ideas I want to try at home!

Wouldn't this be a fun way to do a feature wall in a closet? A few floating shelves from West Elm, a collage of favorite images, a brightly painted credenza, and a pop-of-color light...

The walls above the cashier's counter were covered in massive floral prints and a stenciled story about the "Kate Spade girl." The umbrella, shoes, and book were actual items glued to the wall. I wouldn't recommend THAT at home, but the wall mural would be fab in a living room.

Also loved the shadow boxes for purses - totally doable!

The only reason I didn't leave with this stool was because I couldn't figure out how to fit it in my purse. SO FAB. Maybe Kate Spade furniture is in the future?

GOING TO THE SMALL SIDE: NAOMI'S HOME

Since I'm decorating a small (minuscule) living space, I spend a lot of time digging through photo archives of everything from diminutive houses, to one-bedroom apartments and studios, looking for what looks best when your aspirations are big and your canvas for realizing them is small. One of my favorite new inspirations is the apartment of Naomi of Divine Manifest blog and interior design. You'll note it's fairly spacious, but many of the design elements would translate beautifully to the small side - especially the fabulous accent walls!

Tony Duquette for COACH - I'm loving the line! And is that a starburst I spy? Duquette was doing them first, of course, but since we're all going to put them on our walls these days, it only makes sense we'd eventually start wearing them too.

NEW LAND'S END HOME

I'm not much for the summer camp style that Land's End popularizes myself, but the new Land's End Home has some pieces that definitely don't feel like roughing it.

Gosh, this doesn't look anything like chiggers, cold showers, or poison ivy...

So fun! Their new furniture line (not pictured) is still what you'd discover collecting spiders on the backporch of any Appalachian cabin, but the design is modern, mildly nautical fun. Most bedding and bath comes in leaf green, navy, and khaki.
