MATTHEW BEES' EMERALD APARTMENT

Somehow over the holidays I missed House Beautiful's feature on Matthew Bees, and his charming studio apartment in emerald green. I wanted to share some shots of his jewel-box home, not least because I have a thing for green studio apartments, but also because he has some great ideas for organizing small spaces, as shared by Curbed HERE. Bees' work couldn't be more timely - not only because Pantone has just anointed green the color of 2013, but because New Year's is the time for fresh, well-organized starts. Rubbermaid and the hosiery industry are essentially in the same business each January:  here to help you hide away all those extra pounds.

DRAMA. One glance at this masterpiece of theatricality, and you'd guess there's an entire manor house to go with it. Instead, the mirror is crowning a 350-square-foot apartment.

Edit, edit, edit. Even in the photos, you can feel how small this space is, but Bees' use of symmetry and matched objects isn't rigid, but freeing - it gives a sense of place and order.

A banquet-like corner is carved out of a well-placed screen, concealing the bed, and a table that's both for dining and coffee. Hanging art on room dividers is one of my favorite tricks; it gives a screen or bookcase instant credibility. "Hey!" it says. "I have a picture hanging on me! I must be a wall!"

A man and his (foo) dog. Are those the red ones from C. Wonder?

What a lovely apartment. I'm inspired to go get organized - and maybe paint another wall green. :)

Be Intehaan Song Lyrics Race 2- Atif Aslam & Sunidhi Chauhan

BE INTEHAAN
Suno na kahe kya suno na
Dil mera suno na, suno zara
Teri baahon me mujhe rehna hai raat bhar
Teri baahon me hogi subah

Be intehaan (be-inteha)
Be intehaan... hmmm
Yun pyaar kar (yun pyaar kar) Be intehaan
Dekha karun saari umar (saari umar)
Tere nishaan be-intehaan
Koi kasar naa rahe, meri khabar naa rahe
Chhu le mujhe is kadar be-intehaan

Jab saanson me teri saansen ghuli toh
Phir sulagne lage
Ehsaas mere mujhse kehne lage
Haa baahon me teri aake jahaan do
Yun simatne lage
Sailaab jaise koi behne lage
Khoya hoon main aagosh mein
Tu bhi kahaan ab hosh mein
Makhmali raat ki ho naa subah
Be intehaan, be-intehaan
Yun pyar kar be-inteha
hmmm...

Gustakhiyan kuch tum karo
Kuch hum kare iss tarah
Sharrma ke do saaye hain jo
Muh pher le hum se yahaan

Haan chhu toh liya hai ye jism tune
Rooh bhi choom le
Alfaaz bhige bhige kyun hai mere
Haan yun choor ho ke majboor ho ke
Qatra qatra kahe
Ehsaas bheege bheege kyun hain mere
Do bekhabar bheege badan
Ho besabar bheege badan
Le rahe raat bhar angdaiyaan

Be inteha, be inteha
Yun pyar kar, be inteha
Dekha karoon saari umar
Tere nishan, be-intehaan
Koi kasar na rahe, meri khabar na rahe
Chhu le mujhe is kadar be-intehaan

Raja Rani Lyrics Song Son Of Sardar

RAJA RANI

Dialogue:
Waise aap naha-dho ka naa bilkul nahaye dhoye se lagte ho
He he :) Chal jhoote

Tu meri rani, main hoon tera raja
Aaja meri baahon mein aaja
Haan kar de mujhko
Main tere ghar le aaunga (Band baaja)

Milan swayamvar aaj racha ja
Dil ke sheesh mehal mein aaja
Bin pheron ke byaah racha ja
Rani tu main raja
Rani tu main raja

Tujhe dekhun jab jab mera jiya dhadke
Kabhi aag lag jaaye, Kabhi shola bhadke
Bin badra ke jaise bijli kadke
Rani main tu raja
Rani main tu raja
Raja!

O meri Madhubala, tujhko bin varmala
London ghumaunga, ghumaunga Patiala
Ooh la la, ooh la la
Tu chaabi main taala
Aaja ab aa bhi ja
Haay mood bana dilwala

Tujhe dekhun jab jab mera jiya dhadke
Kabhi aag lag jaaye, Kabhi shola bhadke
Bin badra ke jaise bijli kadke
Rani main tu Raja
Rani main tu Raja

Milan swayamvar aaj racha ja
Dil ke sheesh mehal mein aaja
Bin pheron ke byaah racha ja
Rani tu main Raja
Rani tu main Raja

I have been mine, now is yours*
Karenge hum enter, of course
Pyar ki hogi nayi shuruaat
Phir yaad rakhegi tu ye raat

Aap naa ji saaban se nahate ho ya cream ka kamal hai

SAAF Sabres: Canadair CL-13B and North American F86F

SAAF Sabres: Canadair CL-13B and North American F86F

The SAAF Operated North American F86 E/Fs and Canadian Built CL13-Bs:

North American Sabres:

The SAAF's use of the Sabre started during the Korean War when 2 Squadron had their Mustangs replaced by North American F86F-30 Sabres. This was due to the high regard and respect that the SAAF pilots had achieved with their tenacity in the ground attack role with Mustangs.

The first machines, on loan from he USAF, were delivered in January 1953, and the last returned to the USAF in October 1953.

These early Sabres, although F models, which in theory would of been fitted with the newly-developed "6-3" wing were in fact mostly all fitted with the older slatted non 6-3 wing. There is photographic evidence though that at least one of the attrition replacement aircraft was fitted with a "hard 6-3 wing".

At the cessation of the Korean hostilities 2 Squadron returned all their remaining Sabre's to the USAF. Aircraft losses amounted to four out of 22 Sabres.
Serial numbers  were in the 601 to 622 range.

Canadair Sabres

The SAAF Museum's Sabre is a Canadair CL-13B Sabre Mk 6, one of a batch of 34 acquired by
the SAAF. The specific aircraft in question, serial 367, was delivered to the SAAF on 11 October 1956. The construction number is 1476 and it was allocated the temporary RCAF serial of 23686.

Initially serving with 2 Squadron, it transferred to 1 Squadron in 1964 when they were replaced by Mirage IIICZ's. In 1976, 1 Squadron re-equipped with the Mirage F1AZ and 361 was transferred to the Advanced Flying School at AFB Pietersburg. Sabre 367 undertook its last flight on 3 March 1978 before
being retired from service.

Sabre 376 was placed in storage until 1996 when, under the inspiration of Col Rod Penhall, OC of AFB Bloemspruit and an ex-Sabre pilot at 1 Squadron, the decision was made to resurrect the Sabre for the SAAF Museum. The aircraft was transported by road from the SAAF Museum to AFB Bloemspruit on
15 January 1997. The team worked for slightly more than three years to restore the aircraft to full flying condition.

Three of the major problems facing the restoration team were the unavailability of pyrotechnic cartridges for the ejection seat, an unserviceable centre wing fuel tank and the requirement to manufacture a new
trunion for the engine. By March 2000, the restoration had been completed.
Since the aircraft had been in storage for an excessive period, the test flying programme conducted by the Test Flight and Development Centre was treated as a new aircraft being readied for its first flight. All electrical looming and connections, hydraulic and fuel pipes, and flight and engine control systems, were inspected by independent authorities, and safety and technical review boards were convened.

After numerous engine ground runs, compass swings and engine relights, approval was granted  to advance to the high speed taxi test. In this specific case, the aircraft was accelerated to 100 knots and the aircraft lifted-off approximately 2ft above the runway for about 4 seconds during which time the test pilot evaluated the aerodynamic responses.

The 'first flight' of the restored Sabre, still in its natural metal finish, was conducted on 30 March 2000 at 17h15B and lasted for 30 minutes during which no snags were reported.

Despite appearing in numerous airshows during 2000, Sabre 367 was only repainted in full 2 Squadron colours during October 2000.

Chipka le saiyan
Chipka le saiyan Fevicol se

OH CHRISTMAS TREE

Last week, Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda kindly highlighted my Christmas tree. Here are a few shapshots, and be sure to click over and see the full post, and as well as an abundance of other TPP holiday decorating ideas.

The theme was Chinoiserie meets Tony Duquette - thus the sunburst topper and ornaments, and "coral" accents behind the plates.

I didn't realize until I looked at photographs from 2011 that this tree was MUCH bigger than last year. It's a table top tree in the fullest sense:  it takes up the entire table. But, I had to have enough room for all my fun ornaments, especially since I keep finding more, and in the most unusual places. I discovered these fine fellows for sale at the Warner Theater, when I went to see Septime Weber's The Nutcracker (they are of course, from the Tea Dance).

A close up of some "coral" - also known, at the Hobby Lobby, as "glitter branches."

You can see the rest of my holiday decor HERE - including some tips for bringing Christmas cheer to small spaces. Hope your holiday decorating has been fun!

AN AUSSIE CHRISTMAS

For Americans from the deep South, Southwest, and much of the Pacific Coast, a white Christmas is a delightful movie, not an actual experience. Still, the temperature does drop in December, the coats - or at least jackets - come out, and it's not too much of a stretch to imagine a few flurries. But what do you do when Christmas comes midsummer? How do Aussies and Kiwis celebrate Christmas, and does Santa ride a surfboard? Maybe Australian based home decor webzine Adore will provide some clues.

Christmas seems to mean loads of fresh, not candied fruit (at an xmas party at the Black & Spiro store).

Christmas shopping sleeveless...

And no ugly Christmas sweaters. Maybe they do ugly Christmas bathing suits?

Adore also featured Portugese interior designer Maria Barros, whose sunny style suits the Southern Hemisphere (note her very colorful tree).

Would you prefer a summery Christmas? Or is ice nice for the holidays?

SMALL SPACE CHRISTMAS

Christmas is the time of BIG! Big trees, big gifts, big hearts. But for small-space dwellers, the holidays can also offer a unique challenge:  where to fit all that Christmas cheer? Here are a few of my favorite holiday things - and how I used them in my pint-sized apartment.

Tip One:  Go real! Faux greenery wastes storage space for 11 months out of the year, and nothing is lovelier than the fresh scent of evergreen. In my 425 square foot apartment, a tree would take up valuable floor space, so instead, a miniature fir fits on the dining table. I repurposed a ginger jar as a tree base (one less thing to store). You may notice a slight Tony Duquette sunburst and coral theme going - I got a little carried away this year!

Tip Two:  Switch out your everyday artwork for something seasonal. I love artist Jennifer's prints (over at The Pink Pagoda), and her green chinoiserie chair brings a bit of Christmas color to this bookcase, propped above some red books. Changing out pictures in frames can be a simple space-saving way to decorate.

Tip Three:  Use decorations sparingly, but with impact. I gathered a few free evergreen branches when I bought my tree, and used a skien of ribbon and a handful of miniature golden ornaments for this spray. It's a simple way to transform a credenza or mantel, and the ornaments and ribbon fit in a ziplock bag for off-season storage.

In the bedroom, I also did very little - just a red glitter ornament, and a silk chinese knot on an evergreen branch. Even tiny touches like these bring Christmas cheer to a room.

Tip Four:  Invest in little things you love. I have a thing for nutcrackers AND Asian-inspired design, so you can only imagine my thrill at discovering geisha nutcrackers! Who knew? They feel right at home with the foos.

Happy Decorating!

Second Hand Jawani Lyrics

Second Hand Jawani

Daayein lage kabhi baayein lage
Naino ki bullet dil pe dhaayn lage, Raja
Aayi helicopter pe chadhke jawaani
Koodi parachute bina, karke manmaani
Teri end jawaani
Teri ban jawaani
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri second hand jawani
Teri end jawaani Oh teri ban jawaani
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri
Second hand jawaani

Oh meri end jawaani, meri banned jawani

Bhanwaron ke college ka main professor hoon baby
Ayyashi ke computer ka processor hoon baby

Oh raja hogi gadhi jo bhi hogi teri deewani
Jitna kameena tu, main utni sayaani

Meri end jawaani
Oh meri banned jawaani
Oh lambi race ki hai ghodi
Second hand jawaani

Oh teri end jawaani
Teri ban jawaani
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri
Second hand jawaani

Yun meri jawaani pe jo ungali uthaaye
Khud ki khaali taxi mein kitne bithaaye

Oh ja ja radio pe teri mashhoor kahaani
Duniya sunegi ab yeh aakashwani

Teri end jawani
Oh teri ban jawaani
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri
Second hand jawani

Meri end jawani
Oh meri banned jawaani
Oh lambi race ki hai ghodi
Second hand jawaani

Teri end jawaani Oh teri banned jawaani
Haan haan chahiye mujhko teri
Second-Hand Jawani

ISHQ WALA LOVE SONG LYRICS

ISHQ WALA LOVE

Surkh wala, sauz wala, Faiz wala love
Hota hai jo love se jyada waise wala love
Ishq wala love

Hua jo dard bhi toh humko aaj kuch zyada hua
Ishq wala love
Ye kya hua hai kya khabar yehi pata hai zyada hua
Ishq wala love
Agar ye usko bhi hua hai phir bhi mujhko zyada hua
Ishq wala love

Meri neend jaise pehli baar tooti hai
Aankhein band kar ke dekhi hai maine subah
Hui dhoop zyada leke teri roshni din chadha
Ishq wala love

hanke badalon ki jaali ke peechhe se
Kare chandani ye mujhko ittala
Leke noor sara chand mera yahin pe hai chhupa chhupa hua
Ishq wala love

Hua jo dard bhi toh humko aaj kuch zyada hua
Ishq wala love
Ye kya hua hai kya khabar yehi pata hai zyada hua
Ishq wala love
Agar ye usko bhi hua hai phir bhi mujhko zyada hua
Ishq wala love

Jo aise hota
Jo milte tum ho jaate gum sath mere
Hote hote hoga samjhaye hum tham jaaye tum
O dil mere

Toota zyada zyada tara jab gira
Zara zyada zyada maangu dil tera
Kabhi zyada zyada maane na dil ye sarphira
Ishq wala love

Bada ye dil nadaan tha, par aaj kuch zyada hua
Ishq wala love
Jo khine ka tha dar tujhe pata nahi kyu zyada hua
Ishq wala love

Hua jo dard bhi toh humko aaj kuch zyada hua

STUDIO BY KOWLES

How fabulous is this studio apartment? It's the home of Matthew Kowles, the General Manager for Charlotte Moss' firm - plainly, the design apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You can see more in Lonny's December 2012 issue, but here's a sneak peak. A few of my favorite features:  the bed frame treats the bed as a legitimate piece of furniture, even a feature, rather than stuffing it into a corner. Placing the TV on the same plane as the photo wall is a trick that downplays the screen. And, my favorite golden rule for small spaces is in action here:  keep it off the ground! All the furniture in this room has several inches of clearance, and the coffee table, with its central spot making it the likeliest space hog, has airy legs and a carpet-colored marble top that allow the eye to move on.

But the best bit is the desk:  it's a truly marvelous look on so many levels (ha) - Matthew preserves an heirloom while modernizing it and (my favorite part!) the glass top pulls into the center of the room and becomes a dining table. Fabulous.
Enjoy the rest of this space in Lonny's December 2012 issue.
